PDP acting as a major wall to safeguard Kashmir s larger political interests: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar, Jan 07: Commemorating the second death anniversary of her father and PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said the PDP is at present playing the vital role and acting as a major wall in safeguarding the interests of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to KNS correspondent Tassaduq Rashid, the chief minister while addressing people at Dara Shikoh Park, in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, said that the PDP since stitching a common ground with the BJP in the state has been acting as a vital force to defend the rights and interests of the people of the state. “I don’t know whether people know this or not but the truth is that the PDP has always been in a forefront to safeguard the interests of the state and its people. It at present as well is treading the same path that was laid by the PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed,” Mehbooba said.

Terming the vision of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as imperative for peace and prosperity of the state, the chief minister said her father couldn’t get much time to realise his dream of resolving Kashmir and making peace permanent in the state. She underscored what she termed historic measures for the future of Jammu and Kashmir like opening of Muzarafabad, Rawalakot road, CBMS and peace initiatives.

According to the KNS correspondent, she termed the present situation worrisome, stating that Kashmiris are becoming the worst victims of the violence. “It is a Kashmiri who is getting killed. Whether there is any IED blast, a suicide attack or encounter. Lives of Kashmiris are getting destroyed and devastated. How long would such a trend continue,” Chief Minister said in her address.

She questioned that when gun and violence perpetuated by it couldn’t resolve the issue for the past three decades, how would it help the people of the state at present. “For the past more than twenty years, we have been witnessing the guns roaring in Kashmir. But what good has it done to us in these past decades. If there is anything that could prove beneficial for the people of the state, it is peace and efforts being taken for it,” chief minister said.
